Indians spend 28 hours on mobile phones every week: Mary Meeker report

The 2017 edition of Mary Meeker’s much-awaited Internet Trends report is out and it paints a positive picture for the Indian market. Meeker is a partner at the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB).

According to her study, Internet user numbers in India grew by 28 percent to 355 million users until mid-2016, even though the growth in global internet users remained flat at 10 percent. India ranks second behind China in terms of number of internet users. Of the total population, 64 percent access the internet. Within this group, 72 percent of the internet users are under the age of 35.

The report notes that while competition continues between companies trying to capture the Indian online market, the ultimate winners are the consumers.
